Sweet Paal (Milk) Pongal

Sweet Paal pongal as the name suggests is a sweet rice dish made with sugar and milk. This dish is also made on Pongal or Sankranthi. Its a big hit for anyone who has a sweet tooth. Enjoy this easy and delicious dish !


Serves:4
Ingredients:
4 cups milk
1/2 cup water
1 cup rice 
1 1/2 cups sugar 
1 tbsp cashews
1 tbsp raisins 
1 tsp cardamom 
2 strands saffron 
1 tsp ghee


Method:
1. Soak rice in water for 10 minutes. 
2. Take a stock pot, add milk, water and bring to a boil. 
3. Add rice to stock pot and keep stirring until rice is cooked. 
4. Add sugar and mix well. 
5. Add saffron strands soaked in 2 tsps of warm milk, mix well and remove from heat.
6. In a small pan add ghee.
7. When hot add cashews, raisins and cardamom and saute until cashews turn light brown and add to sweet pongal and mix well.

  1. Awesome. Does the modhak get softer or will it be hard even after it floats on top? I will try this soon. I suppose we can also use coconut milk, instead of preparing fresh?!
