Balekai / Plantain Palya

Plantains are used for cooking widely and are considered a staple food in the tropical regions of the world. They have the same texture and can be cooked the same way as potatoes. Plantains are said to be a good source of potassium and vitamins A and C. Enjoy this quick plantain palya with rice or chappatis.

Ingredients:
3 green plantains peeled and cut into bite size pieces
3 dried red chillies (peppers) (to taste)
1 tsp cumin seeds
3 tbsps dried coconut
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp oil
Salt to taste


Method:
1. Grind red chillies, cumin seeds, coconut and salt together into a powdered form.
2. Heat oil in a pan.
3. Add mustard seeds.
4. When mustard seeds start to splutter add chopped plantain pieces and saute for 1 min.
5. Add powder, mix well and saute until cooked, for 5 mins. Taste and add salt if necessary. Serve hot.
